The Dance of Life
Sometimes it’s important to empty your mind but there
is a certain time and place for it. Meditation is one such context where it is
important to empty yourself and be formless.
But that aside, being empty all the time is not good. Life
hangs on a precarious balance of Yin and Yang. Yin (emptiness) and Yang (fullness)
is what makes up this world.
A cluttered room with no space doesn’t let you live
but on the other hand, a room that is devoid of anything is not liveable either.
It’s the proper balance of empty and filled space that gives us a furnished
room.
It’s good to keep yourself engaged but it’s important
leave spaces in between.
It is good to be active but it is also important to be
passive. The actor who plays an active role in the theatre becomes a passive participant
in a football match. The football player becomes a passive participant in the
actor’s theatre.
When two people have a conversation, one of them speaks
(active) and the other listens (passive) when the passive listener speaks they
become active.
We sleep and then we wake up only to go back to sleep
again.
While one foot advances, the other retreats and this
is how we walk.
The ancient Chinese came up with the philosophy of Yin
and Yang to explain this concept. I would like to call this the ‘Dance of Life’
where we flit between the realms of active and passive.
For a human to lead a complete life it is important to
balance this dance. All of us participate in this dance but not all of us dance
well. The fliting between these two states must be balanced.
In other words, there is a time to work, there is a
time sleep, there is a time to speak and there is a time to listen.
Do all of this at the right moment to live life to the
fullest.
“To everything there is a season, and a time to every
purpose under the heaven”
